When it comes to the fabric, cotton is the most ideal material for bed sheets – due to it’s comfort especially for sheets made of 100%cotton.This makes the bed sheets absorbent while at the same time being soft. This is especially good for the hot weather as the sheets are absorbent and do not hold the moisture making them comfortable not clammy.

The second most recommended material for bed sheets is satin and silk. This’ fabrics are light making them suitable for making of bed sheets. Satin and silk are comfortable for all weather and due to their light fabric. They are also recommended because of their hypoallergenic property. Fabrics that have long lasting capacity should be chosen in order to get maximum benefits from the sheets purchased.

Thread count is the number of threads used to make a square inch of fabric. When a fabric is made of a high thread count, the softer the fabric is. High quality sheets have a count of not less than 200 threads per square inch. When buying bed sheets, it is important to know how the count has been done since some fabric makers count double yarn as two threads leading to a higher count even when this may not be so.

This is where the hand in the fabric comes in. When a fabric has a higher thread count, it is found to be softer to the touch. This is unlike the fabrics made with lower counts which are considerably stiff. The hand is not only about the number of threads but also the type of weave gives bed sheets a good hand. Bed sheets made from fabric by good weavers who ensure a neat and soft finish to the fabric.

Another aspect that is detrimental is washing of sheets in hot water for disinfection purposes. This weakens the strands of fiber making it more prone to wear and tear an alternative is disinfecting with a fabric friendly disinfectant. Also important for maintenance of bed sheets is always ensuring that they are well rinsed. An extra rinse is advisable as it gets rid of remaining traces of detergent. The traces left over time result in weakening of the fabric and eventually tearing. Ensuring that the sheets are a comfortable fit to the bed is also a requisite in making sure that comfort and quality is obtained.
